I have received many emails during recent months about the important matter of the Trans-Atlantic and Investment Partnership, commonly known as TTIP.
Thanks in part to the correspondence I have received, I am taking an increasing interest in it. I have helped to table an amendment to the Queen’s Speech which states “Regret that a Bill to protect the National Health Service from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership was not included in the Gracious Speech."
I have been concerned about a number of aspects of the TTIP but fundamentally there is a profound lack of accountability to our Parliament. I am pleased that the Government are willing to accept our amendment. However the only way that we can be certain to avoid the unpredictable, and frankly sinister aspects of TTIP is to vote to leave the European Union, which I will be doing.
