Local MP for Enfield Southgate David Burrowes, has renewed calls to tackle knife crime. On 9th March he cited the fact that in the last three months, 300 repeat offenders were let off going to prison.
This is despite the ‘Enfield Law’ that Mr Burrowes and former MP for Enfield North Nick de Bois implemented in 2015 that introduced a minimum custodial sentence for those convicted of possessing a knife for a second time.
He asked the Leader of the House, David Lidington MP: “May we have a statement to reaffirm that it was and still is Parliament’s clear will that persistent knife offenders should and must be locked up, because they cause carnage on our streets?”
The Minister replied: “We certainly want to see people who are convicted of knife crimes being sentenced severely, because they not only cause actual harm to fellow citizens but breed a culture of fear that poisons whole neighbourhoods”.
The North London Hospice is looking for at least two trustees to join its Board.
